Tributes have been paid to a much-loved Waterford man following his sad passing.

Predeceased by his father Michael, Allen will be sadly missed by his wife Tracey, daughter Zoe, son Luke, mother Helen and brother Fergus.

He is deeply regretted by his nieces Becca and Allie, mother and father-in-law Christine and Richard Coughlan, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, colleagues, neighbours and friends.

Tributes to Allen have flooded in from across Waterford since his sad passing.

His former work colleagues at GROW HQ paid tribute to him in a post on Facebook.

A café spokesperson said: “The GlY team and extended family of GROW HQ customers and friends are so saddened at the loss of a dear colleague and friend Allen Troy, who passed away on Monday after an illness. Our thoughts and hearts are with Tracy, Luke, Zoe and Helen at this time.

“Allen was one of a kind, and he was hospitality and service to his fingertips.

“Always first in and last home, he brought honest hard work, passion and a sense of fun and mischief to the job, making sure every team member and visitor was welcomed with a smile, and felt valued and looked after.”

They continued by outlining how the café looked to honour Allen’s memory in the days after his passing.

“We were incredibly blessed to have him at the helm at HQ for 5 years.”

“For our customers, there is a remembrance book at reception in the cafe if you would like to remember Allen with a note.

“GROW HQ will be closed on Friday as a mark of respect. Rest easy Allen.”

Allen was also heavily involved with Villa Football Club, who also paid an emotional tribute to him in a post on social media.

A club spokesperson wrote: “Awfully sad news yesterday evening of the passing of Allen Troy after a brave battle with illness.

“Allen was a hugely popular player and coach within the club. He was a brilliant schoolboy player with the club back in the late 1980s.

“Life and career took him to Ennis, where he settled and had his family. Allen returned to Waterford a number of years back and immediately reconnected with Villa.”

They outlined how Allen continued to pay for the club despite his recent illness.

“He was an excellent coach and never lost his love of playing, becoming a stalwart of our 4th division team.

“Amazingly, he kept playing throughout much of his treatment, showing how much it meant to him.

“Above all, Allen was a true gentleman. He always had time for a chat and friendly word with everyone and that smile was never far from his face.”

The club concluded by passing on its sympathies to his family and friends.

Allen reposed at Tom Hennessy’s Funeral Home, Johnstown, Waterford on Thursday, September 10.

Requiem Mass took place at St Mary’s Church, Ballygunner on Friday, September 11, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

May He Rest in Peace.
