Dunnes Stores yet to confirm start date for work at Ferrybank Shopping Centre

Kilkenny County Council has provided an update in a statement to Waterford Live
Dunnes Stores is yet to confirm when work will start at the Ferrybank Shopping Centre, Kilkenny County Council has said.
The local authority has provided an update on the status of the shopping centre on the outskirts of Waterford city.
In a statement to Waterford Live, a council spokesperson said: “Kilkenny County Council’s most recent correspondence from Dunnes Stores was to inform the local authority that they would be in touch soon with a progress report.
“There is no update as to when works might start at the centre.”
The Ferrybank Shopping Centre has lain largely vacant since its construction in 2008, with the local library service currently the building’s sole occupant.
However, it looked set to open after Kilkenny County Council approved plans for Dunnes Stores to open a store in the building last August.
This decision was subsequently challenged by Waterford City and County Council through judicial review proceedings.
The local authority contended that Kilkenny County Council failed to carry out an adequate retail impact assessment before granting permission for the development.
However, Waterford City and County Council withdrew its case in July, paving the way for Dunnes Stores to proceed with the development.
