Waterford City and County Council has granted permission for the refurbishment of Assembly House

Planning permission has been granted for the refurbishment of a historic building in Waterford city.

Permission has been granted for repair works to be carried out on the Assembly House at an address of 30 O’Connell Street.

The existing building will be refurbished and repaired, with the original sliding sash windows and internal doors being modified.

A number of internal alterations will be made to improve the building’s accessibility, security and functionality.

Energy retrofit works will also be carried out, including installation of internal wall insulation, an air-to-water heat pump and solar panels behind the parapet to rear roof area.

As well as that, a green roof and rainwater harvesting system will be added to the side entrance extension roof.

A number of associated site works will also be carried out.

The building is classified as a protected structure within the Waterford City Architectural Conservation Area.

The planning application for the works was submitted by the Southern Regional Assembly on September 1.

Waterford City and County Council granted permission for the development on October 22, with five conditions attached.
