Fishing trawler ‘took on water’ off Waterford coast in early morning incident

The Dunmore East RNLI detailed the rescue operation in a post on social media
A lifeboat was deployed after a fishing trawler “took on water” off the coast of County Waterford last week.
The Dunmore East RNLI detailed the rescue operation in a post on social media on Sunday.
An RNLI spokesperson said: “It was an early start for our volunteer lifeboat crew on Wednesday, October 21, when their pagers sounded at 5:05am following reports of a local fishing trawler taking on water west of Dunmore East.
“Our Shannon class all-weather lifeboat, William and Agnes Wray, launched and escorted the vessel safely back into Dunmore East Harbour.
“Once alongside, salvage pumps from the lifeboat, Dunmore East Coast Guard Unit and Dunmore East Fire Service were deployed, successfully bringing the flooding under control.”
They went on to thank everyone involved in the rescue operation for their efforts.
“A fantastic example of teamwork and cooperation between our local emergency services, all working together to achieve a positive outcome.
“A big thank you to our volunteer lifeboat crew, who once again answered the call in the early hours, and to our colleagues in the Coast Guard and Fire Service for their excellent support.”
“Three services, one common goal – keeping people safe at sea,” the spokesperson concluded.
