An update on the runway extension at Waterford Airport has been posted to social media

The new runway at Waterford Airport is “really taking shape”, airport management has said.

An update on the runway extension was posted to the airport’s social media pages over the weekend.

The post contains a graphic showing a progress bar at 70 per cent, with the heading ‘runway loading’.

The caption on the post reads: “May to September. What a difference a few months makes.

“In May, we turned the first sod. Now, in September, the runway is really taking shape.

“Huge thanks to everyone working on site to make it happen. What do you think we'll look like by Christmas?”

Two other photos are attached to the post. One shows public representatives during the sod-turning ceremony back in May.

Another shows heavy machines at work on the runway extension.

The post received a big reaction on social media, with many Waterford people welcoming the progress being made.

Work has now been underway for several months on Waterford Airport’s redevelopment.

As part of the project, the airport’s runway will be lengthened to 2,287 metres and widened to 45 metres to accommodate larger commercial jet aircraft.
