Hundreds of complaints have been made over illegal dumping incidents in Waterford city and the surrounding areas so far this year.

Waterford City and County Council has received over 700 complaints over such incidents in the Metropolitan District in 2026.

Illegal dumping tops the list of environmental complaints made in the city area so far this year.

Dog control comes in in second place, with just over 300 complaints being made since the turn of the year.

Littering is not far behind, with also around 300 complaints filed with the local authority’s environmental section.

Meanwhile, just under 100 complaints have been made over noise, while around 50 have been made over household waste management.

A number of complaints have also been lodged over horse control, air quality and dog fouling.

The figures were revealed as part of the Metropolitan District’s Environment Directorate Report for the month of October.

The local authority has said that its team continues to respond to environmental complaints received through its CRM system.

It said it has carried out a number of environmental and waste segregation inspections in the past month.

As well as that, 16 litter patrols were conducted across the district during September.
