The OPW has announced that admission to heritage sites across the country, including two in Waterford, will be free in August

There will be free admission to two popular tourist attractions in Waterford for Under 18s this month.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) has announced that admission to heritage sites across the country will be free for all visitors under 18 throughout August.

This will include Reginald’s Tower in Waterford city, which is run by the OPW in conjunction with Waterford City and County Council.

Similarly, Dungarvan Castle will also be free for Under 18s this month.

The initiative aims to encourage young people and families to discover Ireland’s cultural and historical heritage, while helping to make these experiences more accessible by removing financial barriers.

OPW heritage sites aim to offer visitors of all ages opportunities to learn more about Ireland’s history, architecture and traditions.

Speaking about the initiative, Minister of State with Responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, said: “I am delighted that all under 18s will once again enjoy free entry to OPW heritage sites this August.

“Whether it’s exploring ancient monuments, visiting historic houses, taking part in interactive tours or discovering Ireland’s cultural heritage first-hand, this initiative offers young people a fun and memorable way to connect with history, nature and culture over the summer holidays.”

The OPW’s U18 Free Entry Initiative aims to offer young visitors the chance to “discover Ireland’s history in exciting and engaging ways” this August.
