Planning permission granted for major redevelopment of iconic Waterford hotel

The Grand Hotel in Tramore has lay derelict for over a decade
Planning permission has been granted for a major redevelopment of an iconic hotel in County Waterford.
The Grand Hotel on Broad Street in Tramore has lay derelict for over a decade but is now set to be reopened as an 40-unit apart-hotel.
Permission has been granted for the redevelopment of the existing four-storey derelict building.
This will include the demolition of two ground floor single-storey annexes, onto Broad Street and Hotel Square respectively.
A number of rear external projections, bay windows, ancillary spaces and stairwells are also set to be demolished.
The existing lift will be removed from the central courtyard, whilst the interior of the building would be stripped back to structure.
Elevational alterations will be made, including the removal of all external windows and doors and replacement with new external windows and doors.
New external entrances and openings will be formed, along with works to re-render, feature tile and paint external façades.
A third-floor single-storey flat-roof extension facing Little Market Street is also planned.
As well as that, new additions will be made to the internal courtyard, including two escape stairs, one accommodation stairs, one lift and laundry areas.
Permission for the provision of ancillary apart-hotel facilities has also been granted and will include a reception/foyer, office and staff facilities.
There are also plans for linen storage, luggage storage, bin storage, plant and service areas.
Furthermore, a ground floor entrance canopy, along with associated signage and window awnings onto Broad Street, is planned.
A 12-space car park will also be constructed and will include one accessible space.
Finally, a number of external site works, including for the provision of new footpaths, raised terraces, planters, front entrance steps and landscaped spaces, are also planned.
The application was submitted by Magna Capital Investments Ltd on May 25.
Waterford City and County Council granted permission for the development on July 17, with 16 conditions attached.
