Over 70 complaints made regarding Garda behaviour in Waterford-Kilkenny division

Over 70 official complaints were made regarding the behaviour of gardaí in the Waterford-Kilkenny Division last year, a public meeting has heard.
Deputy Police Ombudsman Brian Doherty outlined the complaints received by Fiosrú at a recent meeting of the Waterford Local Community Safety Partnership (WLCSP).
Mr Doherty told the meeting that Fiosrú had received 77 complaints over garda actions in the division from April 2 to December 31, 2025.
The meeting heard that 40 of these complaints were inadmissible, while 16 went forward to a resolution process.
Meanwhile, 11 were investigated for potential misconduct and 10 related to potential criminality.
Mr Doherty said that these figures represented a “relatively low level of complaints for a busy garda station”.
In comparison, 130 such complaints were made in Galway, 112 were made in Cork city and 94 were made in Limerick.
Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, is Ireland's independent statutory body for police oversight.
It independently investigates public complaints regarding members of An Garda Síochána.
It was established on 2 April 2025 with the commencement of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act, 2024.
It replaced the former Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC).
