Waterford City and County Council has issued an update on the construction of the new Transport Hub on the North Quays.
In a report issued to local councillors, a council spokesperson said: “Construction of the new Transport Hub and railway station building has progressed to the final fit-out stage.
“Seating, lighting, public facilities, wayfinding signage and information and communications systems are being installed.
“Testing and commissioning of the station's operational systems will continue over the coming months, along with the construction of the southern entrance to the Transport Hub.”
They added that the northern public plaza area is now open to the public and provides a further access point to the opened section of the South East Greenway.
Meanwhile, Iarnród Éireann is set to continue with the installation of trackside drainage, signalling, electrical and telecommunications infrastructure throughout 2026 and 2027.
Regulatory approvals are required for the operation of the new station. Associated infrastructure will also be completed during this period.
Subject to the completion of these works and approvals, the new station is expected to open towards the end of 2027.
Completion of the railway flood defence scheme is also required prior to the station opening.
