Final surfacing works to begin on new Waterford bridge with red track to be extended

Waterford City and County Council has issued an update on the new pedestrian bridge in the city
The final surfacing works are set to begin on the pedestrian bridge in Waterford city this month.
It will see the red surfacing on the South Quays Plaza continue along the centre of the bridge.
The red surface will denote the space allocated to cyclists, whilst the surfacing at the edges will be for pedestrian usage.
Waterford City and County Council has said that a number of other finishing works are also set to be completed in due course.
These will include the installation of lighting and street furniture, and the final commissioning of the automated systems for the opening span.
The removal of temporary river piles and the completion of the permanent pier protection system is also progressing.
However, the pedestrian bridge is not expected to open until late 2027, when the work on the North Quays private development is substantially completed.
