Cllr David Daniels has provided an update on work being undertaken on the Maypark Trail in Waterford city

Work is set to begin on the construction of a new entrance to a popular riverwalk in Waterford city.

Independent councillor David Daniels has provided an update on work being undertaken on the Maypark Trail, near the Dunmore Road.

In a post on Facebook, Cllr Daniels wrote: “Works will commence in the coming days at the Maypark Village entrance to the Maypark Trail.

“The works will include the development of a new entrance to the trail from an existing housing estate, along with upgrades to the path in this area and any necessary drainage improvements.

“The works are expected to continue for a number of weeks, during which parts of the path may be temporarily closed.”

He continued by calling on those walking the trail to be mindful of the work that is underway.

“Trail users are asked to be mindful of these works and any access restrictions in place.

“These improvements follow the recent works in the Freshfields area, which included the removal of invasive hedge plants, with further works also planned further along the trail.”

Cllr Daniels concluded by thanking Waterford City and County Council for funding and supporting what he described as a “very important community amenity”.
