‘Absolutely cruel’ - Waterford residents left frustrated by noisy overnight roadworks

The works took place in Waterford city on Wednesday night
A number of residents have been left frustrated by overnight roadworks that took place in Waterford city.
Residents of the Upper Yellow Road area took to social media after work took place on Wednesday night.
These works are reported to have started at 8pm and continued until 4am.
WLRFM presenter Damien Tiernan shared a message on social media from a frustrated parent living in the area.
The woman said: “We had some sort of road maintenance crew conducting work on the Upper Yellow Road until 4am… yes 4am! They started at 8pm.
“This isn’t right. I have two children (one with ASD), both up until 4am in tears because they couldn’t sleep and had to keep them off school today as a result.
“Trying to find out but nobody is saying it was them.”
A video taken by the woman was also shared, which showed men chatting on the road while carrying out the work.
In a comment on the post, another local woman said: “It was absolutely cruel, we were suffering also.
“Sounded like they were cutting metal and then the beeping started of reversing trucks. I had earplugs on my two.”
In a separate social media post, another local resident wrote: “Me trying to sleep at 10pm on a Wednesday night and I thought someone was mowing their lawn.
“But nope, it’s construction in the middle of the road. Some people work and go to school on Thursday, how is that even allowed during the week?”
A number of people have made enquiries to find out who was carrying out the works.
Fine Gael councillor Frank Quinlan has said it wasn’t Waterford City and County Council’s roads department. It remains unknown at the time of writing.
