Waterford students at risk of being ‘drenched by passing cars’ outside local school

Cllr Thomas Phelan raised the issues outside Dungarvan College at a recent meeting of the Dungarvan-Lismore District
Students in County Waterford are at risk of being “drenched by passing cars” outside a local school, a council meeting has heard.
The issue was raised by Labour Party councillor Thomas Phelan at the October meeting of the Dungarvan-Lismore District.
Cllr Phelan said that work was recently carried out at the entrance to Dungarvan College.
He continued: “It was a case of otherwise good work that had the unintended and averted consequence of leading to water lodging there.
“A lot of water [is lodging there] even after a short amount of rain, leading to flooding and leaving students on their way to school at risk of being drenched by passing cars.
“So if we could take a look and see if any of the engineers can revisit there and see if there’s some piece of drainage or else if there are other ways to keep the water from lodging there.”
In response, Sean Gormley, Executive Engineer at Waterford City and County Council, said that the council is in discussions with Dungarvan College over the issue.
