Waterford City and County Council is carrying out upgrade works at the two playgrounds

A horse charity is set to reuse the old mats from two playgrounds in County Waterford.

Sinn Féin councillor Kate O’Mahoney addressed the subject in a post on social media last week.

In the Facebook post, Cllr O’Mahoney wrote: “Another positive to come from the playground upgrade works in Dungarvan and Abbeyside!

“My Lovely Horse Rescue have been in touch with me and have also gotten in touch with the Council’s roads team.

“They are coming to Dungarvan this week to see what mats and other suitable materials they can take away and put to good use.”

She went on to outline the work that the horse charity undertakes and what the mats will be used for.

“My Lovely Horse Rescue are a fantastic organisation that rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals that have been neglected, unwanted or abused.

“It’s great to see what was previously in both playgrounds being recycled and put to such a fantastic cause.

“A great example of materials being given a new lease of life while helping animals in need. As a huge animal lover, this makes me so happy!”

Waterford City and County Council recently announced major upgrade works at two popular playgrounds in Dungarvan.

Work is underway on the upgrading of Dungarvan Linear Park and Walton Park.

Meanwhile, further upgrade works in An Rinn and Ardmore are scheduled to take place later in the autumn.
