Waterford FC manager Graham Coughlan accuses former academy manager of ‘stirring s***e’

It comes after no homegrown players were named in the Waterford FC squad vs Shelbourne
Waterford FC manager Graham Coughlan has accused a former academy manager of “stirring s***e” on social media.
Former Blues academy manager Mike Geoghegan took to LinkedIn last weekend after there were no academy players named in Coughlan’s Starting XI to face Shelbourne.
In the post, Geoghegan stated: “Waterford FC lineup for today without any home produced player in the squad.
“A number of young players were sent out on loan in this window.
‘Interesting to see is it for their development or just moving them out to clear slots for signings.
“This is probably not what was expected when academy football was launched over ten years ago.”
After the game, Coughlan responded to the post in the comments and accused Geoghegan of “stirring s***e”.
Coughlan commented: “Clearly no idea what you’re talking about Mike.
“Stop stirring s***e. Speak to me privately on Tuesday if you have anything to say, rather than on social media.
“Who would you like to see on the team sheet and I will give you the reasons behind my squad selection.”
To this, Geoghegan responded: “I can put what I want on my social media. If you want to talk to me we pass each other almost every day.”
“Agreed Mike, you can but if it’s nonsense and toxic accept I will defend my club and players.
“Every team sheet since I’ve been here has had a homegrown player on it.”
He went on to explain why there were no academy players on the bench for the Shelbourne game.
“Today was the first time we didn’t as they had a game Saturday and Monday but don’t let facts get in the way of your noise.
“Playing week in week out on loan will benefit the lads more than being on a bench. Anyone who knows football will explain this to you.”
The discussion concluded with Geoghegan replying to Coughlan: “Lets trade facts whenever you want.”
Waterford FC recorded a 1-0 victory over Shelbourne in the game in question to move three points clear of bottom side Sligo Rovers.
Coughlan has received high praise for the way in which he has dragged the Blues off the bottom of the table since his appointment in May.
