Waterford City and County Council has confirmed that there is a fire in the area

The Waterford Fire Service is at the scene of another fire in the Comeragh Mountains this afternoon.

Waterford City and County Council has confirmed that there is an “active hillside fire” adjacent to the Coumshingaun Loop Walk.

In a statement this afternoon, a council spokesperson said: “There is a significant amount of smoke in the Kilclooney area, and members of the public are asked to avoid the area and not to undertake the Coumshingaun Loop Walk at this time.

“Fire crews are on the ground monitoring and responding to the fire. Some sections are located along steep and inaccessible terrain.”

They concluded by asking people to allow emergency crews to carry out their work safely and avoid travelling to the area.
