Plans for public lighting in the People’s Park in Waterford city are “progressing well”, a council meeting has heard.
Labour Party councillor Seamus Ryan requested an update on the plans at a recent Waterford City South committee meeting.
Cllr Ryan outlined the response he received from the council executive in a post on social media after the meeting.
In the Facebook post, he wrote: “I was informed that my proposal to install low level public lighting in the People’s Park is progressing well, with a contractor now appointed.
“Work should be completed by early new year.”
Local councillors have been calling for public lighting to be installed in the park for several years.
LED pedestrian lighting is set to be introduced along the perimeter path network, fountain area, and main pathways to improve safety and support evening usage.
Construction and installation works are scheduled to begin in Q4 of 2026 and extend into early 2027.
