Cllr John Pratt spoke on the subject of the Waterford Greenway at a recent meeting of the Dungarvan-Lismore District

Renewed calls have been made for the Waterford Greenway to be extended from Dungarvan to Lismore.

Labour Party councillor John Pratt spoke on the subject at the October meeting of the Dungarvan-Lismore District.

Cllr Pratt said: “I’m bringing up an old chestnut in relation to the extension of the Greenway from Dungarvan back towards Ballyduff and Lismore. I know it’s a contentious one.

“It’s disappointing to feel that it kind of seems to have been put on the long finger. I do understand that there’s reasons why.

“I suppose even if there’s ways of doing it, small sections of it or on road and off road. I just don’t think it should be gone away.

“I would ask that we would keep it on the radar and try to ensure that we can make it alive again.”

He concluded by saying that he still feels there’s an opportunity to extend the Greenway further west.

In response to Cllr Pratt, Conor O’Neill, Economic Development Officer at Waterford City and County Council, said that the idea is currently on pause.

Mr O’Neill said: “I suppose at the moment, it’s kind of paused and there is no funding available this year for progressing it.

“That doesn’t mean that it’s completely gone. It’s being led by Cork County Council and I’ll reach out to them again just to see what the plans are for next year.”
