15 dogs were seized in Waterford city and surrounding areas last month amid a number of complaints.
Waterford City and County Council addressed these patrols efforts in a report recently circulated to local councillors.
A council spokesperson said: “The dog warden for the east of the county continued his weekly patrols within the Metropolitan District, with an increased focus on beach patrols.
“Encouraging patrons to ensure all dogs are kept under effectual control during the bathing season allowing everyone to safely enjoy beach amenities is a particular priority at this time.
“He also responded to all CRM-recorded complaints and contacts received. 15 dogs were seized in the Metropolitan District during September.”
The council currently employs two dog wardens, with one covering the city and one covering the county.
They actively patrol public areas, housing estates, and beaches and ensure dogs are kept under control.
Wardens carry out routine patrols, respond to public complaints and perform spot checks as part of their duties.
In total, the council has received over 300 complaints regarding the control of dogs so far this year.
