A driver has been caught doing a speed of 162km/h on the Waterford to Dublin motorway.

The incident occurred on the M9 in County Kilkenny shortly before 10pm this morning.

Gardaí in Kilkenny detailed the incident in a post on social media that afternoon.

The Facebook post contained a photo of the speed gun in a garda car, with the reading of 162km/h on screen.

The caption of the post simply read: “M9 today. Not okay.”

A number of people commented on the post and expressed their anger at the speed of the car.

One man wrote: “Scary speeds. Hopefully they were stopped.”

“Mother of Jesus, what an idiot. They should be banned off the road for years,” a woman commented.
