A County Waterford community has raised €6,000 following the tragic death of a young student.

Varvara Dikhtiarenko, late of Main Street, Lismore and formerly of Ukraine, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 31.

Labour Party councillor John Pratt subsequently organised a fundraiser to raise funds for the family.

In a post on Facebook, Cllr Pratt wrote: “I just launched a fundraiser in memory of Varvara Dikhtiarenko, a bright student and beloved member of the Irish and Blackwater Community School.

“Her family is facing the heavy burden of funeral and memorial expenses after her sudden passing, and any support or sharing would mean a lot during this difficult time.

“Please consider donating or sharing to help ease their burden and honor Varvara’s memory. Thank you so much for your kindness.”

The fundraiser received a huge response from the local community, with €6000 being raised in total.

Cllr Pratt thanked everyone who donated, saying that all the donations were “greatly appreciated”.

In donating, many people, particularly those in the school community, fondly remembered Varvara for her kindness and friendly nature.

She is sadly missed by her heartbroken parents Yuliia and Andrii, much-loved sisters Yuliia and Lina, grandmother Tanya, uncles and aunts.

Varvara is also deeply regretted by her good friend Matthew and his family, pupils, management and staff at Blackwater Community School, relatives, neighbours and friends.

May She Rest in Peace.
