Waterford will face Kilkenny in a charity game at Azzurri Walsh Park in December

The Waterford senior hurling team will face Kilkenny in their first game under new manager Stephen Molumphy.

The two neighbours will contest a charity game in aid of Waterford Hospice at Azzurri Walsh Park on Saturday, December 12.

Announcing the fixture, new Waterford boss Molumphy said: “The charity is Waterford Hospice, which is an extremely important service and gives so much to the community.

“We want to show the new players that we have on our panel and it’s an opportunity for supporters to see our current development.”

“Hope to see you all there,” he added.

It will be the former Déise captain’s first game in charge of his county, while it could also be the first outing for new Kilkenny boss Henry Shefflin.

Molumphy and Shefflin faced off on many occasions during their playing career, including in the 2008 All-Ireland Final.

Both teams will likely be without many of their established players for what will be a very early pre-season fixture.

Throw-in on the day will be at 1pm, with tickets already for sale online.
