Homeowners and businesses are being advised there will be a period of very high astronomical Spring Tides in Waterford over the coming days.

In a public notice, Waterford City and County Council says it is actively monitoring the situation and will erect appropriate flood defence barriers in Passage East, if required.

In addition, the local authority says a tidal surge is forecast to occur on Sunday morning resulting in tide levels higher than the natural tide levels.

This, it says, may necessitate the erection of flood defence barriers in both Waterford city and Passage East.
