A swimmer came to the rescue during an emergency incident on the County Waterford coast yesterday.

The Tramore unit of the Irish Coast Guard detailed the incident in a post on social media on Wednesday.

A group spokesperson said: “At 14:10 today, our team was tasked by MRCC Dublin following reports of a swimmer in difficulty in the Guillamene area, Tramore.

“A team quickly responded to the scene. On arrival, it was confirmed that the person had made it safely out of the water with the assistance of another swimmer.

“Well done to the swimmer who stepped in to help.

“Tramore RNLI was also responding but stood down during launch once it was confirmed the casualty was safely ashore.

“Our team assessed the person, who thankfully did not require medical attention but was understandably a little shaken following the ordeal.”

The spokesperson concluded by reminding anyone going swimming to always tell someone where you're going and when you expect to return.

In an emergency on or near the coast, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.
