Theatre Royal’s ‘Rosalind’ sculpture, created by artist Elaine McDonagh, will be restored to its former glory in the coming weeks.

The artwork suffered damage in February of this year and was found knocked over.

However, Waterford City and County Council has now announced that McDonagh has almost finished her repair works.

“Rosalind, our dancing lady, took a bit of a tumble earlier this year, but after a few months of restorative works, she’ll soon be back where she belongs – pride of place in front of the Theatre Royal on the Mall.

Artist Elaine McDonagh has lovingly restored the sculpture to her former glory, and with just a few final touches to complete, she’ll be back in her rightful place in the coming weeks.”

Elaine McDonagh, of Newgrange Willow Designs, created the sculpture from recycled wire and willow. It was installed outside Waterford town’s Theatre Royal in 2022, and is based on Rosalind from Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’, which was the first show staged in the theatre.
