There is a “strong smell of smoke” in parts of County Waterford as a result of the Slievenamon fire, a local councillor has said.
Sinn Féin councillor Donnchadh Mulcahy highlighted the issue in a post on social media this morning.
In the Facebook post, Cllr Mulcahy said: “Many people across West Waterford are noticing a strong smell of smoke this morning.
“It is believed to be drifting from the large wildfire on Slievenamon in County Tipperary due to changing wind conditions.
“A huge thank you to all the firefighters and emergency services working tirelessly to bring the fire under control.”
The Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service is continuing to tackle the major wildfire on Slievenamon which broke out on Monday.
It has deployed extra resources in recent hours in an attempt to put out the fire.
Residents in the wider area, particularly those located downwind of the fire, are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke in the area.
Vulnerable groups, including children, older people, pregnant women, and those with respiratory or heart conditions, are advised to take additional precautions and avoid exposure to smoke where possible.
