Residents of a village in County Waterford are “extremely frustrated” as water outages continue in the area, a local councillor has said.

Sinn Féin councillor Catherine Burke made the comments regarding Bunmahon in a post on social media.

Water outages were reported in the area at approximately 10:30am yesterday.

Uisce Éireann subsequently reported that repair works on a burst water pipe were due to be completed by 4pm.

However, many households and businesses in the area remain without water.

In a post on Facebook, Cllr Burke said: “I know many households and businesses in the Bonmahon area are extremely frustrated by the ongoing water outages.

“I have been in contact with Uisce Éireann on four occasions regarding this issue. I have been advised that the repair works are now scheduled to be completed by 4pm today.

“I have also made it clear that residents and businesses were given the same completion time yesterday, which understandably has added to everyone's frustration.”

She continued by outlining what has been requested in the meantime to support the local community.

“I have requested that Uisce Éireann provide a water tanker and bottled water for affected residents and businesses, and I am currently awaiting confirmation that these will be put in place.

“I will continue to press Uisce Éireann for updates and will share any further information as soon as I receive it.”

These sentiments were echoed by Waterford Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane, who also expressed frustration over the issue.

Deputy Cullinane expressed hope that the water supply will be restored this afternoon but said that confidence in Uisce Éireann had been undermined yesterday.
