The issue was raised by Cllr Donal Barry at the July meeting of the Waterford Metropolitan District

The surfaces of two roads in Waterford city are “deteriorating badly” and “starting to sink”, a council meeting has heard.

The issue was raised by independent councillor Donal Barry at the July meeting of the Waterford Metropolitan District.

Cllr Barry said: “The road surface there at number 40 Crystal Court to the junction of the main road in John’s Park has also deteriorated badly in a number of places.

“I ask if the engineer can come out and inspect that road to see if it is going to be replaced or repaired.

“We have the same problem in Mount Sion Avenue between house numbers 34 to 51 if the engineer could pay a visit.

“I didn’t think that road was actually re-laid that long ago but in that particular area, it’s starting to sink and it’s in a bad state of repair.”

In response, Paul Johnston, Senior Engineer at Waterford City and County Council, said that the roads would be added to the relevant roads programmes.
