ALERT: Thousands impacted by pump failure at water treatment plant in Waterford town

Uisce Éireann says the fault has lead to water supply issues in Lismore, Tallow Road, Glencairn Road, Ballinaspick and some surrounding areas

Uisce Éireann says its crews are actively working to restore the water supply to customers who have been impacted by a pump failure at the Lismore Water Treatment Plant.

The State utility has confirmed the pump failure has lead to water supply issues in Lismore, Tallow Road, Glencairn Road, Ballinaspick and some surrounding areas.

"Every effort is being made to minimise the impact on homes and businesses. However, the repair work is complex and is taking longer than expected; it is anticipated to be completed later this Friday evening," read a statement.

Maura Phelan, Uisce Éireann Water Operations Manager, commented: “We understand the inconvenience caused by an unplanned outage like this, and we are working diligently to repair it as quickly as possible. We appreciate the community's understanding during this time.”

To support the local community, Uisce Éireann has made an alternative water supply available at Bunscoil Bhóthar na Naomh, which will be in place until 10am on Saturday, February 15.

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.
