Waterford learner driver handed €800 in fines after expensive Garda stop
A learner driver from Waterford was given fines totaling €800 after being convicted of road traffic offences.
Anthony Ahearne, Apt. 16 Scots Marsh House, William Street, Waterford, was charged after he was stopped at a garda checkpoint on St Patrick’s Day, 2025, on the Waterford Road in Kilkenny.
Mr Ahearne was a learner driver and unaccompanied, tax was out of date since December.
Solicitor Chris Hogan said his client could not afford to pay his motor tax at the time as he was not working and struggling to pay his rent.
