Waterford householders have been “shocked” by energy prices “skyrocketing” in recent days, according to a local TD.

Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane took to Facebook to comment on the situation, which has emerged amid the ongoing war in the Middle East.

Deputy Cullinane said: “I have been contacted by people across Waterford who are shocked at the huge jump in the cost of home heating oil and fuel in just the past few days.

“The price gouging here is despicable, is pure greed and is the lowest of the low!

“Some households are reporting increases of hundreds of euro for a single delivery of heating oil, while motorists are also seeing sharp hikes at the pumps.”

He continued by calling on anyone in Waterford who is experiencing such issues to get in touch with him.

“Families were already under real pressure with the cost of living, these sudden increases are simply not fair.

“It is important that we highlight just how widespread this problem is. People should not be left at the mercy of companies hiking prices overnight.

“Let me know your experience so I can raise it directly with the Government.”

Deputy Cullinane concluded by calling on the Government to introduce a cost of living package to tackle the problem.
