Waterford firefighters hailed as heroes after tackling Tramore fire

Firefighters in Tramore and Waterford have been described as "heroes" after tackling a huge fire at the vacant Tramore Hotel on Saturday evening, August 11.

Gardaí are investigating the cause of the blaze which started before 6pm on Saturday.

The road at Strand Street was closed as the emergency services brought it under control with firefighters tackling the blaze for over five hours.

Locals took to social media with dramatic images and videos of the blaze. Nobody was injured during the fire, but those on social media were quick to praise those who battled the raging flames to stop them spreading to nearby buildings.

Dervila Burns wrote, "Congratulations on a job well done guys, putting your lives in danger to protect others. All your wonderful work is very much appreciated."

Waterford Ambulance Station alos showed their support on Facebook by commenting, "Well done to the Fire Service #Heroes #OurHeroes."

Stephen Wiggins added, "Where would we be without people like these? They keep us all safe. Well done to everyone involved and thank you."

Amanda O'Sullivan said, "Well done to everyone involved and thank you," with Christine Doherty adding, "What great guys you are, well done."

Breda Hanrahan wrote, "Brilliant job thanks to all our brave firefighters." Lynz Morrissey note, "Great work by all the crew. They are not given enough credit for the job they do."
Lucy OSullivan commented, "Well done guys, the photos were terrifying. Every single one of you are absolute heroes!"
