Summer of unmissable Backstage music at Waterford's Theatre Royal
WATERFORD will be filled with music this summer as Theatre Royal Waterford’s intimate Backstage venue hosts some of the best and brightest original acts around.
One of Ireland’s finest singer songwriters, Niall McCabe, kicks off the Backstage summer programme on Friday, July 7.
Having released his eagerly anticipated solo album last year, Niall has recently been touring with Irish trad-fusion band Beoga, whilst also playing support for Ed Sheeran, Foy Vance and Johnny Swim.
Following Niall, Nick Kelly, who first came to prominence fronting ‘The Fat Lady Sings'.
Since then, he’s embarked upon fresh musical chapters, with ‘Alien Envoy’, ‘The Unelectables’ and ‘Dogs’ with his friend and fellow-songwriter Sean “Doctor” Millar, featuring a set drawn from the noisiest corners of Nick and Sean’s combined back catalogues.
Vague, an original music project by Waterford musicians featuring Cilian Jacob, Ken Lally, Killian Browne and Eddie Blake will launch their debut single Backstage this summer - on August 11.
Taking inspiration from soul, pop, funk, folk, punk and jazz, Vague’s influences include David Bowie, Chet Baker, Randy Newman, Blur, Van Morrison, The Clash, Paul Simon, The Band, Nina Simone, Talking Heads.
Fresh from releasing their second album, ‘Neon Hip’, and supporting The Frames at the Marquee, West Cork alt-rockers First Class & Coach will be joined by special guests One Morning in August.
Finally, Waterford band Superstar Nomads and Fintan Scanlon play a double-header, on August 19, to finish off the summer of music in Waterford.
