The Waterford Greenway and (inset) Cllr Niamh O'Donovan
Concern has been raised over the lack of public toilets on the Waterford Greenway amid an upcoming marathon.
Fine Gael councillor Niamh O’Donovan raised the issue at the March plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council.
Cllr O’Donovan said: “When you look at the Viking Marathon coming up on the 21st of June, a lot of people are maybe in their marathon training plan at the moment.
“We have a fantastic amenity in the Greenway on our doorstep but one thing that I don’t think is talked about enough is the lack of toilets on the Greenway.
“We have one in Kilmac. As a runner, It’s a lot of miles to get to Kilmac from Dungarvan and back to get to a toilet or to have access to it.”

In response, Director of Services Gabriel Hynes said there were no plans for additional toilets on the Greenway at this time.
Mr Hynes stated: “In relation to public toilets, I suppose we’ve agreed a programme of works in relation to all public toilets at our budget meeting.
“We approved funding in line with the programme for public toilets for 2026 and it’s our intention to follow that programme and agreed works that we brought to you at our budget meeting.”
