Emergency services monitoring forest fire in mountain near Waterford border

The fire broke out on Slievenamon in County Tipperary yesterday morning
Emergency services are continuing to monitor a forest fire in a mountain near the Waterford border.
The fire broke out on the Clonmel side of Slievenamon in County Tipperary on Monday morning.
Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service made the decision to stand down active firefighting operations at the fire overnight for crew safety.
However, emergency services are continuing to closely monitor the situation to ensure the safety of residents and the surrounding area.
The decision to stand down firefighting operations was made due to the challenges posed by darkness, difficult terrain, and limited scope for effective intervention.
Emergency services maintained a presence in the area throughout the night to monitor the situation and respond as necessary.
At this stage, there is no expectation that residential properties will be impacted by the fire.
The operational response will be reviewed this morning, including consultation with partner agencies and utilisation of aerial support information.
Public safety advice remains in place for residents affected by smoke, who are being advised to keep windows and doors closed, especially for those with respiratory conditions.
The public has also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel to the area to allow emergency services access to the site.
The rate of fire spread was expected to reduce overnight as temperatures fell.
Emergency services say they will continue to monitor developments and take appropriate action to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
