Two young men have been caught driving “seriously illegal” e-scooters in Waterford city.
Gardaí detailed the incident, which occurred in Ferrybank on Monday evening, in a post on social media.
In the Facebook post, a Garda spokesperson said: “Two of Kilkenny's RPU members were dropping court material to Waterford station this evening and on their way, [they were] listening to an interesting news article about e-scooters.
“As they approached Rice Bridge, they spotted two chaps on seriously illegal e-scooters.
“A quick chat and inspection revealed the machines to be 2,000 watt devices capable of 65km/h.
“Both were seized under Section 109A of the Road Traffic Act and their owners will have to apply to the courts if they wish to get them back.
“A day in court also awaits for [having] no insurance.”
They concluded by saying that gardaí have now moved from the education phase to the enforcement phase when it comes to e-scooters.
