There have been a number of reports of kids’ bikes being stolen from front gardens in Waterford city in recent days.

The issue has been discussed on the Dunmore Road / Waterford City East Facebook group.

A group admin wrote: “Warning: A number of kids’ bikes have been taken from both outside and inside people’s gardens in the past few weeks.

“Make sure the bikes are locked in every evening following use.

“Attached are two of the most recent bikes taken. Please let guards know if you see them or have been offered them on 051-305300.”

In a later reply, the same man commented: “Awful stuff and to think that we could leave the bikes in the green growing up and still be there next morning.”

In a separate post, one local woman wrote: “Please keep an eye out for my son's bike. It was stolen from our front garden this week in Grange Manor. Yes he forgot to bring it in.

“It's an Orbea and an adult size small. It's a distinctive colour and has a straight handlebar. Any info helpful as he is devastated.”

She later commented: “Guys we caught them on the doorbell camera and they are wearing balaclavas.

“Two of them at 2.30am. They took a bike from our neighbours too but discarded that one.”

There have also been reports of bikes being stolen in Williamstown Park and Knightswood.
