The man came from a well-known family in West Waterford

The Waterford man who died in a tragic collision involving a bus on Sunday night has been named locally.

Richard Prendergast, aged in his 60s, was a farmer who lived in West Waterford.

It is understood that he had only recently retired and that his family are well-known in the area.

He was pronounced dead after his car and a bus collided on the N25 in Kinsalebeg on Sunday evening.

A large number of emergency service vehicles attended the scene, including gardaí, ambulances and fire engines.

It is understood that a number of bus passengers suffered minor injuries in the incident.

However, no other serious injuries were reported.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Shortly before 8pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a bus and a car on the N25 between Youghal and Dungarvan at Kinsalebeg.

“The driver of the car, a male in his mid 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“All occupants of the bus were medically assessed at the scene and no serious injuries were reported.”

The road was closed to allow for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since fully reopened.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N25 between Grange and Pilltown Cross between 7:30pm and 8:00pm are asked to make this footage available to the investigating Gardaí.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dungarvan Garda Station on 058 48600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
