Watch: 'Electric Picnic for farmers' - Hector undeterred as it lashes at first day of Ploughing

Popular TV presenter Hector Ó hEochagáin was on familiar territory at the National Ploughing Championships in Laois for the start of the three-day national event on Tuesday morning and was very much embracing the wet weather.

He agreed that the wet weather wasn't dampening anyone's spirits at the event.

"Anyone who works outside in Ireland is well used to the rain. There's tens of thousands of people here and it's only half nine or 10 o'clock in the morning on the first day. I think they are built for it. There's plenty of wellies. Listen if you are coming this week, you have to have the wellies on," Hector said.

"I got to know this area pretty well because when you are stuck in a car, going to the Electric Picnic, for hours and hours, you know Stradbally. And if you know Stradbally, you know Ratheniska," he said.

"It's funny that just over the road is the Electric Picnic, and now we are at the Electric Picnic for farmers," the popular TV presenter said.

These are busy times for the TV and radio presenter with the return of his popular podcast as well as a new series on TG4 filmed in south east Asia.

"Look at that for a magnificent sight. Half nine in the morning, the rain is pelting down and people are happy in the rain," he said of the crowds already flocking to the ploughing championships.

"This is our country. We love the rain. Accept it," he enthused.
