A Waterford councillor has described his “instant regret” after he rang a constituent’s doorbell and woke her sleeping baby.
Sinn Féin councillor Donnchadh Mulcahy shared the video, which was taken from the homeowner’s ring camera, on his Facebook page.
The video shows Cllr Mulcahy and Sinn Féin TD Conor McGuinness arriving at the front of a house and chatting to a woman who was standing at the door.
Cllr Mulcahy proceeded to ring the doorbell of the house, much to the dismay of the woman at the door, who instantly went inside.
In a post on his Facebook page, Cllr Mulcahy said: “As you can see from the video, the regret was instant after pressing that doorbell.

“Having three kids at home myself, I know only too well the battle of trying to get a baby to sleep, so sincere apologies in advance if I caused chaos in any household today.
“Campaign lesson of the day - always check for prams, toys or suspicious silence before ringing any bell.”
There were a number of humorous comments on the post, including from Deputy McGuinness, who said: “How to lose votes and alienate people.”
Cllr Mulachy responded by saying “luckily I have you to win them back”, before the TD exclaimed: “Lad, there’s no coming back from that.”
The woman in the video also commented, saying: “You're lucky we support you and that [the baby] went back to sleep or you’d have four kids to be looking after for the afternoon!”
“Great to see you both, keep up the good work,” she added.
The incident took place whilst the pair were calling to houses in the Villierstown and Aglish area on Friday, February 27.
They were handing out newsletters and promoting a petition calling for extra Garda resources in West Waterford.
