County Waterford is getting ready to go wild this summer as the Comeraghs Wild Festival returns from July 10 to 13, bringing four days of music, dance, storytelling, and family fun beneath the stunning Comeragh Mountains.
This year's festival theme, Nostalgias, promises visitors a joyful dive into Ireland's cultural roots, with a packed programme of events celebrating everything from trad sessions to surfing lessons for kids.
Set dancing and trad sessions
One of the festival's biggest draws lands on Saturday, July 12, with a vibrant afternoon of traditional music and storytelling. Kicking off at 3pm, Joe Power hosts a Rambling House Session, inviting festivalgoers to sing, share stories, or simply soak up the lively atmosphere.
As evening falls, dancers will take centre stage at Dance Neath the Comeraghs in Rathgormack Hiking & Community Centre from 7pm. Set to tunes from the Neily O'Connor Band and the young talents of Ceol Craobh Crotaigh, the night promises high-energy dancing, a sizzling BBQ, and even local ice cream, all under the mountain skies.
Woodland adventures and bear trains for kids
Families will find plenty to keep little adventurers happy at the festival. On Friday and Saturday, Claire O'Sullivan's Creative Children's Summer Camp transforms Crough Wood into a wonderland of nature crafts, treasure hunts, and woodland magic. Running from 10am to 12.30pm, the camp welcomes both children and parents to explore nature in creative ways.
Meanwhile, kids can hop aboard the Waterford Suir Valley Railway from 11am to 4pm for a scenic Greenway journey complete with face painting, a treasure hunt, and meet-and-greets with festival favourites Honey and Barry Bear.
Surf's up for under-12s
Over in Bunmahon, the ocean takes centre stage as Bunmahon Surf School hosts a "Kids Only Surfing Lesson" at 2pm on Saturday. Aimed exclusively at under-12s, the lesson offers youngsters a safe and splash-filled introduction to surfing. Places are limited and advance booking is advised.
From trad tunes and dancing under the stars to woodland adventures and seaside fun, organisers say the Comeraghs Wild Festival is set to be a celebration of Waterford's wild heart and cultural spirit.
