Waterford's Central Library on Lady Lane has launched their stunning display of artwork created by local artist Kathi Burke to encourage the community to take the necessary steps towards achieving a Climate Neutral Waterford.

Kathi Burke is an artist, illustrator and author from Dunmore East and has worked on children's books, brand collaborations, exhibitions, merchandise design and creativity workshops for young people over the past decade. Kathi is based in Garter Lane Visual Arts Studio in Waterford City.

Kathi created the artwork in collaboration with Waterford's Central Library and Waterford City and County Council's Climate Action Team which is now displayed in six windows of the library.

The aim of the art project is to inspire people around Waterford to work together to make small changes to prepare for a changing climate while also encouraging people to create Ireland's first Carbon Neutral City.

Each of Kathi’s illustrations are based on concrete examples from Waterford City and County Council’s Climate Action Plan and convey how the Council can lead communities towards a Carbon neutral future.

The pieces show Waterford City with repair cafes, swap shops and biodiverse spaces where wildlife can thrive and where people can pick up what they need while reducing waste and saving money.

The then Mayor of the Metropolitan District of Waterford, Cllr. Joe Kelly who launched the artwork with artist Kathi Burke said: "It is important for all our communities to get a chance to connect and engage with the Council’s ambitious Climate Action Plan.

"All of the small environmental changes we make will contribute to ensuring Waterford City’s pathway to decarbonisation."

The artwork will be displayed at the library over the next year for the public to see.
