Dry and sunny for bank holiday weekend ahead but temperatures are about to drop

The sun has been splitting the rocks the last few days and today is also expected to see swealtering highs of 24 degrees but experts have warned temperatures are set to drop for the incoming bank holiday weekend with rain showers and possible thunderstorms expected in parts of Ireland.

Today

Cloudy in the north and west with occasional light rain but turning sunnier through the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees. Dry and sunny for the south and east however but some cloud will move over later with isolated showers developing along southern counties, some heavy and possibly thundery. Highest temperatures of 18 to 24 degrees in northerly breezes.

Largely dry tonight with a mix of cloud and clear spells though a few showers may occur in the southwest. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees generally in light northerly breezes. Clearest over the northern half of the country where temperatures may fall lower locally.

Friday

A dry start tomorrow with a mix of cloud and sunny spells though it will turn cloudier from the north with a few light showers developing. The cloud will break up more later in the day with better sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures ranging from 13 degrees in the north to 18 degrees in the southwest in mostly light northerly breezes.

Dry and clear for most on Friday night though cloud will build in the northwest. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees in light northerly or variable breezes

Saturday

Dry and sunny for most at first before cloud in the north sinks southwards bringing a few spots of light rain or drizzle for a time before clearing to more good spells of sunshine. Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees in moderate northerly winds, fresher near exposed coasts

A dry and clear night for most on Saturday though some cloud may push down from the north. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 8 degrees in light to moderate northerly winds

Sunday

Turning cloudier in the morning but still with sunny spells. Some well scattered showers will develop, mostly likely over Leinster and parts of Munster. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees generally but 9 to 11 degrees in Ulster, with light to moderate northeasterly breezes.

Any lingering showers will clear away to leave a dry night with long clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees

Bank Holiday Monday

Indications are that it will be a mostly dry day with just the odd light shower possible. A fair amount of cloud about but still with sunny spells, the best of which will be in the morning and the evening. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in light northeasterly or variable breezes
