Waterford village set for new bus stops after current ones deemed unsuitable

Waterford City and County Council is due to carry out works in Touraneena
A village in County Waterford is set for new bus stops after the current ones were deemed unsuitable.
Waterford City and County Council is due to carry out works on new stops in Touraneena in West Waterford.
Dylan White, Active Travel Communications and Behavioural Change Officer, outlined the works being carried out by the local authority in a letter to Cllr John Pratt.
Mr White said: “The locations of the new bus stops in Touraneena were determined following a detailed assessment as part of the scheme design, taking account of road safety, accessibility, pedestrian connectivity, visibility, existing road geometry and compliance with current design standards.
“The previous bus stop locations were not considered suitable due to issues including the absence of a designated footpath in front of the church, reduced accessibility, parking impacts and road safety concerns.
“The new locations provide safer, more accessible connections to the existing footpath network while maintaining existing parking provision.”
He concluded by saying that an independent road safety audit will be carried out following the completion of the works.
