On Wednesday, February 12, TD and Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, John Cummins, met with Education Minister, Helen McEntee, regarding the shortage of school places for children with additional needs in Waterford.

Speaking on this unfortunate issue, Minister Cummins said, “I am acutely aware of the shortage of school places across the county and I have been working with individual parents impacted by class shortages as well as schools and the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) over a prolonged period of time."

The Waterford TD added that he is aware that this is of "paramount importance and is an area that I am extremely passionate about."

Confirming that he discussed the provision of interim modular accommodation for St John’s Special School in Dungarvan with Minister McEntee and the NCSE, Mr Cummins stated, “It is anticipated that new special classes across Waterford will be sanctioned in the coming weeks,

“I will remain in contact with all stakeholders as we collectively work together on this critically important matter,” he concluded.
