The festival is one of the largest international festivals in the country

A young Waterford choir took home the The Sing Ireland Trophy at this years Cork International Choral Festival.

De La Salle College Senior Choir, made up of students in Waterford's De La Salle College, were awarded the special honour for their performance in the National Competitions for Schools.

They were awarded it for the performance of Joahua! by Trad, arr. Kirby Shaw, in the National Competition for Schools: Section 3: Post-Primary Equal Voice.

The conductor of the De La Salle College choir is Ben Hanlon who led the group to victory. They are no strangers in competing in various competitions but were awarded for their hard work at the 69th Cork International Choral Festival.

Founded in 2000 by the then Transition year class, this Waterford choir is a male voice choir which only has the lower voices - tenors, baritones and basses. There are over 50 members from first to sixth year.

More than 5,000 people attended this year’s Cork International Choral Festival with choirs from 14 countries participating in the five-day festival over the May bank holiday weekend.

Plans are already underway for next year’s Cork International Choral Festival which will take place from April 30 to Sunday, May 4, 2025.
