'One of life's special people' Community mourns the loss of Waterford entertainer

Tributes have been pouring in for Gary Power, formerly of the Folly, Waterford, passed away on Friday March 7, 2025.

Gary is remembered by friends, family and his former colleagues for the happiness he brought to people in both his personal and professional life, most notably during his time as an entertainer.

Messages of condolences and fond memories have been left to Gary and his family on his rip.ie page.

A former colleague wrote: "I was shocked and saddened by the news of Gary’s passing. My most sincere condolences to all the Power family on their loss.

"I had the pleasure of working with Gary in Gran Canaria. He was a great entertainer, a true professional. He was such a lovely lad and made so many new friends during his time here. May his family find some degree of comfort knowing that he made so many people happy during his short time here on this earth. May he rest in peace."

Another person said: "I can't begin to tell you how shocked and saddened we were to hear of Garys sudden passing. All my memories are of fun times over many years of friendship. I cant imagine youre heartache right now. Gary touched so many lives in a positive way , he will always be remembered as one of lifes special people. Rest easy Gary"

Another person said: "Gary was a talented,witty and courteous man with an endearing charm.
Many happy and funny memories of Gary from his time in Bunratty and Knappogue. Codladh sámh a chara."

One of Gary's peers wrote: "Gary was an inspiration to us all as we grew up in theatre in Waterford. An amazing performer and phenomenal director. I was thrilled to have met him back in October @ Garter Lane and we had a great chat and reminisce. Thank you, Gary, for all you gave to Waterford & beyond. Rest in peace"
Gary is predeceased by his father Tom and deeply mourned by his mam Peggy, brothers Brian and Seán, sister Tammy, sisters-in-law Breeda and Mags and brother-in-law Mark, his nieces and nephews Megan, Luke, Thomas, Cole, Jude, Rhys, Nell and Brody, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Funeral arrangements have not been published as of yet.
