Young motorist caught driving car 'erratically' tests positive for cocaine and cannabis

A young motorist has been caught driving an uninsured and untaxed car while on drugs.

According to An Garda Síochána, officers spotted a car being driven "erratically" in Castleisland, Co Kerry at approximately 10pm last night (May 1).

When the car was stopped, the driver tested positive for both cocaine and cannabis.

A photo of the car published by a Garda spokesperson on X (formerly Twitter) is accompanied by the caption: "About 10pm last night, Gardaí in Castleisland, Co. Kerry came upon this car being driven erratically. The young driver tested positive for cocaine and cannabis - that explains that. We figured out too that the car was neither taxed nor insured."

According to statistics from An Garda Síochána, 69 people have died on Irish roads so far this year.

This is an increase of 16 people since the same time period (January 1 to May 2) in 2023.
