People in County Waterford are becoming increasingly concerned by the levels of anti-social behaviour in their areas, a council meeting has heard.
The issue was raised by Fine Gael councillor Niamh O’Donovan at the February plenary meeting of Waterford City and County Council.
Cllr O’Donovan said: “‘Waterford is the best place to live, work and raise a family’, is our tagline but I suppose something that is coming up quite too often now is that residents are actually quite concerned about the levels of law enforcement and anti-social behaviour.
“I suppose I would change that tagline and say I want Waterford to be the safest place to live, work and raise a family.”
She continued by saying that councillors are still waiting for a meeting to be held with An Garda Síochána.

She called for more information to be provided on safety initiatives such as the Community Safety Partnership and for a workshop to be held for councillors.
“We need to know what strategies are in place to improve community safety and reduce crime rates overall across our county,” she concluded.
Cllr O’Donovan received no response from the council executive to her query.
